The Thomson family farm has seen many changes since the 1960’s. It all began when Clayton Thomson, grandfather to current-operator Greg Thomson, bought five quarter sections of grain land and two quarter sections of pastureland in Plumas, Manitoba. Running a mixed operation of grain and cattle, the three generations of Clayton Thomson, son Brian Thomson, and grandson Greg Thomson worked together throughout the decades to shape the farm into the operation it is today.
Over the years, those five quarter sections have more than quintupled to 28: over 4,000 acres of land. In addition, the family also rents 3,450 acres, making their total land mass almost 8,000 acres.
Although the farm began as a mixed operation, the Thomson’s said farewell to cattle in 2005 and have spent the past 16 years focusing primarily on grains.
“This year will be 3,700 acres of canola, 1,300 acres of spring wheat, 1,050 acres of winter wheat, 1,200 acres of soybeans, and 600 acres of hybrid fall rye. Around 7,850 acres total,” said Greg Thomson.
Greg and his family have been loyal RME customers since 2009 when RME opened up a branch in Neepawa, MB., and have been using Case IH equipment since the 1980’s. Currently, their impressive fleet contains a 2021 Case IH 9250 combine, a 2020 Case IH 9250 combine, a 2019 Case IH 540 Quadtrac, a 2019 Case IH 500 Quadtrac, a 2019 Case IH 4440 Patriot sprayer, and two 2013 Case IH Maxxum 125 loaders.
They also own a few other familiar brands that are often seen paired up with the colour red, which includes MacDon, Degelman, Seed Hawk, and Bourgault.
“RME has always been there to get us through whenever we needed them,” said Greg. “First and foremost, it’s service. Having a dealership that is familiar with our needs on a year-to-year basis; the loyalty goes both ways. They have gone through some tough times and numerous changes since taking over the dealership in Neepawa but at the end of the day, they’ve always looked after us.”
RME is proud to be a part of the Thomson family farm and their annual seeding, growing, and harvesting seasons. We look forward to continuing to provide Greg’s fleet with efficient service to ensure his equipment is ready when he needs it most.
