With Spring arriving and Winter slowly making it’s exit; we know it’s time for the farmers to begin pulling their machines out of the shed and gearing up for another exciting growing season! Here at RME, we know this is a crucial time for equipment to be running in perfect condition to prevent any down time in the field. This is where having passionate employees is extremely important.
Shania Krupa joined RME in March 2018 after working in the agriculture industry as a Parts Technician at Vaderstad where she found her passion for the agriculture industry. Wanting to be a mechanic since she was a little girl, she was able to start in the shop in December 2018 where she’s been living her dream ever since.
Beginning her schooling at SIAST in Saskatoon, Shania is now a 4th year Agriculture Equipment Technician and is geared up to write her IP for Journeyperson status later on this year. While she works on all of RME’s product line, she finds herself specializing in sprayers and drills.
“I love the long days on the road and the absolute chaos of the busy season,” she said. “It’s super rewarding when a customer is so grateful that he can get rolling in the morning after spending a late night fixing a piece of equipment.”
Shania said she loves working at RME but there isn’t one particular thing she likes about it: it’s the whole package.
“My coworkers are fantastic, and we have a blast together in and out of the shop. I really like the diversity of personalities we have in the Moosomin branch – there is never a dull moment.”
Coworkers Heinrich Enslin and Jamie Darlington, both Agriculture Equipment Technicians at RME Moosomin, said Shania is knowledgeable, approachable, and helpful.
“Shania is a keen tutor for the younger and less experienced members of the Ag Tech community.”
Looking ahead, Shania said she doesn’t have any future plans as she loves what she is doing now.
“This is it; this is the dream. I originally wanted to be pulling wrenches on vehicles but after working on large equipment, I know I lack the patience for how congested automotives are,” she said.
When asked if she had any advice for someone wanting to get started in the industry, Shania said it helps to have a thick skin.
“When you’re confident in what you’re doing, the quality of your work improves drastically so try not to let your mistakes hinder your confidence but learn from them. Keep a healthy fear of something missing because triple checking is better than forgetting completely.”
RME is proud to have been able to get Shania into the shop and working her dream career while helping our farmers keep their machines running optimally. By doing , RME ensure our customers are taken care of and have everything they need in order to hit the fields.
