It isn’t uncommon to see companies getting ready for the holidays by decorating their show rooms, lobbies, stores, etc. Customers love to come in and see the set up and be encouraged to get into the Christmas spirit.

If you have driven by RME Balzac or RME Drumheller, you may have noticed some of the large equipment looks particularly festive. This is all due to one RME employee who began this tradition in 2013 at the Balzac branch and even entered into the Drumheller lights contest in 2017 and 2018.

RME Lead Hand Technician David Calon has been with RME since it’s Hi-Way Service days, joining the team in 2007 at the Balzac location. Spending summers at his grandfather’s farm when he was growing up, David became a Heavy Equipment Technician to be able to lend a helping hand with keeping the equipment up and running.

“I was encouraged to have a backup plan as farming has its ups and downs. Being a heavy-duty mechanic is a way to be part of the farming industry.”

Working primarily on agriculture equipment, David said his favorite part of being in the ag industry is getting a chance to see all the latest farm equipment coming out. When it comes to working at RME, David enjoys his fellow coworkers and the long-time customers.

RME Parts Sales Manager Austin Leamon said David is one of the best employees RME has ever had.

“He does his best to help everyone he can, and you can count on him for anything. There aren’t any customers who will say anything bad about him,” said Austin.

David is also known for putting together cards for branch employees to sign, whether it’s a well-wishing card or a congratulatory card; David always has one ready.

This year, David has decorated a Puma 220 pulling an RB564 baler and a Farmall 105 tractor at RME Balzac, which can be seen from the QEII highway.

“I have always enjoyed driving around to see the Christmas lights. It started out with about 13 strands of lights on a combine and now, there are more strands than I can count,” said David. “I think some have up to 40 strands.”

David doesn’t restrict himself to just agriculture equipment; in the past, he has decorated CASE construction equipment, as well.

By doing and , David plays a strong role in making RME Balzac and Drumheller the place to be.

Come on by and see David’s handiwork this holiday season! Located at the front of RME Balzac off of Writing Creek Crescent or at the front of RME Drumheller just off of Highway 10.
