 2 Sons Excavating Ltd. has been calling Airdrie, AB home since it’s inception in June 2022. Being one of Airdrie’s newest excavating companies, 2 Sons Excavating Ltd., was started after owner Mike Chouinard’s previous employer closed due to forces out of their control. From there, he decided to take his 20 years of experience in the excavating industry and create his own company where he uses his knowledge to provide a wide variety of services.

“I was doing all the business development for that company, so all the customers already knew me, and I was already plugged in, so it wasn’t challenging to get the ball rolling in terms of finding work and gathering a customer base. It was a peaceful and smooth transition,” said Mike.

2 Sons Excavating Ltd. offers commercial, residential, and industrial services such as foundation excavation, trenching, screw pile installation, site grading, retaining walls, land clearing, and slab prep for concrete. Mike also recently acquired his certification as a Molok® underground disposal bin installer and has since added that to his list, as well.

Having worked with RME for roughly eight years, Mike currently owns his own fleet of Case CE equipment including a CASE CX37, a CASE CX75, two CASE excavators, a CASE TR270 skidsteer, and is renting a CASE CX60.

“Technically, 2 Sons Excavating has only been working with RME since it’s incorporation, however, my previous employer worked with Brad (Burgess) and Thomas (McCarthy) and that’s how I met them.”

In terms of his equipment’s Parts and Service needs, Mike said working with Parts Technician Riley Kuechle and Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician Justin Chabot have been positive experiences all around.

Looking ahead, Mike plans on continuing to grow 2 Sons Excavating starting with some winter grading.

“I’m gearing up to do some winter grading work with another excavating contractor and in the springtime, I’ll continue with that and keep adding onto the fleet. It’s all about simple, consistent, steady growth.”
